Whew.

I feel like I have been completely drenched in media the past few weeks. I've been given books to read, movies to watch, tv shows to catch up on...what is a girl to do? Sheesh.

Well, as I wade through this swamp of information, I'll try to keep alla y'alls as up-to-date as possible.

Musically, this has been a very big week for me. Last weekend I bought myself tickets to see the Decemberists at Radio City Music Hall in June. Holy smokes am I excited! So I listened to a lot of them the beginning of the week, including my newly-acquired Always A Bridesmaid and some covers that Colin Meloy has done. All of it is way good stuff. Of course. They have a new album coming out in exactly one month! I have hiugh expectation for it. Each album of theirs is better than the last:) And that's saying a lot, Castaways and Cutouts is an incredible album.

For the second half of the week, I listened almost exclusively to Smashing Pumpkins, thanks to my obsession with the Watchmen and its trailers, among other things. I haven't heard a song of theirs that I haven't liked yet! Granted, I haven't really had a chance for an active listen, but I think it's almost better to put it on in the background and let it get your attention on its own.

For the past 24 hours I have been listening to selections from the soundtrack to Slumdog Millionaire. Holy crap I love Paper Planes. It is my current obsession song.

Also yesterday, i finished reading Watchmen, the graphic novel that inspired the film. Woooowwww. What an incredible work of literature. It revolutionized the graphic novel by putting heavy emphasis on the character and the why's of being a costumed hero as opposed to the action sequences and the succession of plot point to plot point. I could go on about this forever. But I won't. Not here:) Which leads to me to my next topic...

I'll be a writer for a new up-and-coming entertainment review website! That's right. So this blog will probably be relocated. Or I'll double post. Who knows? When I do, I'll be sure to let you all (and by "you all," I mean the select family members that actually read this, Genevieve, and maybe Nadin. Does Nadin read this? Not sure...)

In other news, the Oscars were this weekend! As a whole I thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle itself. Hugh Jackman delivered one and a half BRILLIANT musical performances, and I really liked that thing where they'd have like 5 presenters and they'd all walk out under their huge picture. That was neat.

I realize that Hugh did 2 musical performances. The second...well, let's just say it felt like Baz was exacting his revenge on the Academy for not being nominated when he composed that little number. I did like the Top Hat pieces tho. Baz's work has been heavily influenced by Top Hat and other films in that genre and era.

Slumdog Millionaire. Excellent, yes. 8-Oscar excellent? I don't really think so.It was a just a woefully weak year for movies in general. This recession won't help for next year either...

I'm sure there's a milion things I could say. I'm tired

5 musings:

My current Slumdog obsession songs? Definitely a toss-up between Jai Ho, O...Saya, and Ringa Ringa. What can I say? I'm easily swayed by the media's influence--especially when it's acoompanied by sweet action Bollywood dancing!

Hugh Jackman is a hot piece of triple-threat action. Mmm.

Nadin reads your blog, she's just more discreet about it than I am. I am a bit of a creeper, afterall :p

P.S. I can spell the word "Accompany", I swear.

Haha you can spell discrete too:)

I'm just teasin. Isn't Ringa Ringa great??! And Liquid Dance with the crazy vocals and the epic stringed instrument action. Holla.

All in all, a ballin' soundtrack. I'm pretty much hooked on all things Slumdog at present...which is weird, having not seen the movie.

But, yeah, BOO. Way to drop the class. Are you at least going to be at the reunion for Whitney Hall coming up? I think I'm actually going to this one :]

P.S. Check yo' definitions, kid. "Discreet" and "Discrete" are two different words, not misspellings of one another. I'm awesome for knowing that.

Touche. It's all of this silly Physical Science I've been studying. Shoot dang.

And you NEED to see the film. Obviously. :)

I had no idea we were having a reunion! Facebook me the details...
